Irish Broadband Press Release - 1st June, 2004 IRISH BROADBAND AWARDED FURTHER NINE LICENCES BY COMREG Irish Broadband (www.irishbroadband.ie), specialists in broadband wireless Internet access, today (1st June 2004), announced that it has been awarded nine licences by ComReg under Phase 2 of the FWALA 3.5GHZ licensing scheme. The new licences are for Athlone, Arklow, Ennis, Kilkenny, Letterkenny, Newbridge, Portlaoise, Wexford and Carlow. The company will be able to provide "true" broadband - high speed, always-on, wireless Internet access - to business and home Internet users in these centres throughout the country. "We are delighted to have been awarded these licences by ComReg in the latest round," said Paul Doody, Managing Director, Irish Broadband. Following on the initial licence awards of last year these new licences provide Irish Broadband with a platform to provide our service on a nationwide basis. We are investing in developing and upgrading our offering and will be in a position to move into these new markets within the coming year. In the first round of 3.5 GHz band licences announced in Novermber 2003, Irish Broadband secured seven licences; for Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford, Drogheda and Dundalk. In early May, Irish Broadband commenced its nationwide rollout with a launch in Cork. "I would like to pay tribute to the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Mr Dermot Ahern TD, as he continues on the Government’s stated objective of deregulation and opening the market to competition. The ultimate beneficiary will be consumers, both domestic and commercial," said Paul Doody. Irish Broadband is the first company to introduce guaranteed broadband connection speeds in Ireland, offering wireless leased lines as an alternative option to DSL, giving Irish consumers and business high-speed Internet access in homes and offices. It currently operates in the license-free 2.4GHz and 5.7 GHz frequency bands, and is also expanding with the use of the, licensed spectrum in 3.5GHz and 10.5GHz Frequencies. Irish Broadband brings business and home Internet users high speed always-on Internet access (upstream as well as downstream) with unlimited connection to the Internet from as little as €30 per month for home users and €45 per month for business users. The service is extremely price competitive and there is no limit to the number of users that can avail of it. Wireless broadband access has never been more reasonably priced and is striding ahead of all other Internet access product offerings. Irish Broadband is in a position to set business and home Internet users up with a broadband service within in days, as opposed to weeks. As Irish Broadband operates its own wireless network, it does not depend on Eircom for connection to customers nor do customers require a telephone line to avail of the service.
