BT Unveils New Irish Brand Identity - BT to invest 100 million in Ireland

BT Ireland Press Release - April 12th 2005

Esat BT today announced that it is to evolve to BT in Ireland, sending out a clear strategic message that the company will capitalise fully on the global strengths and unparalleled expertise of its parent, BT Group plc.

Over the last three years, BT has become Ireland’s leading provider of networked IT services. Today, BT Ireland is privileged to be working with 60% of the top 1000 Business and Finance companies and 90% of the ISEQ 20. In the financial services sector alone, BT Ireland supports 13 of 16 Irish and international companies. BT Group’s recent acquisitions of Infonet and Radianz will further enhance BT Ireland’s market position, delivering even greater reach and service capabilities to indigenous and global multi-site corporates located in Ireland.

Bill Murphy, Chief Executive Officer, BT Ireland commented, “Our transition to BT Ireland signifies our intention to continue competing vigorously across Ireland and around the world and raise the standard of products and services available to both corporate customers and consumers, enabling Ireland to better compete on a global stage’’

BT also re-affirmed it’s commitment to Ireland and to further investment in broadband roll-out, with plans to extend its reach beyond the 40 exchanges currently unbundled throughout Ireland.

Mr. Murphy added “Broadband is at the very heart of the government’s agenda to create a world class knowledge economy, and we will play our part in support of this imperative through further investment in local loop unbundling. This is central to our strategy.”

In addition, the company announced a new consumer offer which will see BT Ireland pay more than half of a households’ monthly land line rental when customers sign up for broadband and land line together.

BT acquired Esat Group in 2000. BT Ireland employs 930 people in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford. Over the last three years, the company has racked up a series of high profile first-to-market services which underpin its longstanding commitment to Irish consumers. BT Ireland was the first company in Ireland to launch broadband, fixed rate Internet service, fixed rate phone service, business Voice over Internet (VOIP), all-Ireland phone calls, WiFi and bundled phone and Internet packages.
